This is a coffee we sourced specifically for our Discord members, and were seeking to present a very fine example of Panamanian washed Gesha. We connected with Forward Coffee, based in Boquete and from whom we have purchased in years past. This is our first time we have worked with coffee from Kotowa Farms, and we are really excited to present coffees from producers who are not very commonly found in our market.
This coffee presents all the marks of exceptional Gesha. Jasmine and orange blossom show up in tandem, wafting off the brew and in the cup. Orangey-tangerine mixed with a thick wildflower honey are the backbone of the profile, with soft undertones of orchard-like fruits reminding us of poached pear. The raw honey attribute carries the finish densely and continually, it would seem, without end after each sip. The sweetness is mouthwatering, the texture is velvety and full, while simultaneously allowing for a crystalline clarity of flavors present.
We brought in a tiny amount of this coffee for a fun Discord release - there are 36 units available total. Each bag contains 45 grams of coffee. This coffee was roasted and packaged on September 16th. We decided to roast this coffee ahead of time, because having such a small amount of the coffee, it made sense to do the production roast and evaluate based on that, rather than a sample roast. This means the evaluation we provided in the paragraph above is based on the same roasted coffee you will be receiving. We also love the idea of you getting to experience the coffee with proper rest, and with only 45 grams per bag, we are excited that you will receive this coffee likely when it is entering peak. Hopefully this will allow you to get the most out of this coffee and without having to wait a long time to rest it yourself.
In order to get the most out of your bag of Kotowa Gesha, we recommend doing:
Two 12 gram brews, and two 10 gram brews. If you feel more comfortable with larger doses for your brewing and feel that will accentuate the best overall brew results for you, you can do three 15 gram brews. We also recommend trying our Lotus Water recipe out to help the profile be as close to what we are experiencing with this coffee. If you would like any further information or to discuss how you can ideally get the most out of this coffee, please DM me on Instagram or send a message in the Brew Questions tab of our Discord.
