Every year we eagerly await the opportunity to make selections from the latest Copa De Oro competition, held by our partners Osito. This season we were fortunate to begin two new purchasing relationships through the Copa De Oro, and this coffee is our first of those two releases.
Every year for the Copa De Oro, Roughly 60 coffee producers in three regional divisions around Huila all contribute a coffee to be scored by a calibrated panelist of judges. Producers are offered large bonus incentives for their coffees placing in the top 15. Over the course of 3 days of intensive, blind cuppings, the judges winnow down the coffees to the final 15, and then subsequently on the 4th and final day judge through the final 15.
In the latest iteration of this competition, held in December 2025, Hugo Gonzales placed as the very top, first overall with his classically washed Gesha. We had the immense privilege to be offered a small amount of Hugo's winning lot, and we are thrilled to make it available to you now. We hope and intend to honor Hugo's exceptional coffee and his work in the way we roast and present this coffee to you.
This coffee opens up with a peculiar, captivating green tea aroma and taste, reminiscent of Dragonwell Sencha. Up next is a hefty, reverberating ripe yellow peach. We're talking a mid summer night's dream, which more specifically is a juicy and fresh peach that you find at one of those backwoods southern markets in July. Wildflower honey and honeycomb debate about which of them is finishing out the sip. Raw white sugar lingers even after that. This coffee just simply leaves you wanting to brew the very next dose every time. Brew this with your friends and family, let this be a shared experience. We sincerely hope this coffee makes its way to you (before we drink it all).
